4 Bideford Mews is a character cottage in the peaceful village of Stratton – a fascinating historic settlement on the outskirts of the popular seaside town of Bude. With its award-winning sandy beaches, a fabulous variety of restaurants and cafes, and manifold leisure pursuits, Bude has something for everyone. The cottage is great for those who want a place to stay nearby that allows them to step away from the bustle of the town and relax in quieter surroundings.
The Accommodation
Offering excellent value (including concessions) and great flexibility, with no set start day and short breaks all year round, the south-facing cottage sleeps three to four people in two bedrooms, and there is also a sofa-bed in the living area, making it possible to accommodate up to six if necessary, Dogs are also welcome and stay for FREE!Downstairs is a sizeable open-plan living area, with comfortable seating and a smart TV at one end, and a dining table and chairs at the other. One of the settees is also a sofa-bed. The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering and includes a washing machine and dishwasher.
The wooden slatted staircase leads up to the first floor where exposed wooden beams and window seats enhance the historic character of the cottage. The larger bedroom has a king-size bed and the smaller has a double bed. We’re told they are very comfortable! The bathroom – bath with shower over – is also upstairs.
There is a garden area for No 4 at the end of the Mews.
Visiting Stratton & Bude and Exploring North Cornwall & North Devon
Stratton has its own attractions, with much of its history on display in the old buildings, including two historic inns, the grade 1 listed Parish Church and the old Courthouse, as well as thatched cottages and former shopfronts. The River Strat is a few minutes away and together with the interesting buildings forms an excellent half-hour circular walk – great for a short dog walk!For convenience the inns serve food and the amazingly well-stocked village shop and Post Office is only a step away from the cottage. Parking is on the streets or in the free village car park (a couple of minutes walk away).
Bude – a half-hour footpath walk, less than 5 minutes by car and 10 to 15 mins by bus or cycling – punches well above its weight as a small seaside town, with its varied seascape – including award-winning sandy beaches. harbour and Sea Pool – as well as the Bude Canal, the River Neet/Strat, plentiful activities and amenities and many special events throughout the year.
The South West Coast path is spectacular walking in both directions, affording panoramic views.
There is a regular bus into Bude and bus routes to the pretty villages of the North Devon coast, such as Clovelly and Hartland, which Stratton gives easy access to being ideally situated on the border between Cornwall and Devon.
