Crail House stands on the site of a royal and ancient castle above Crail’s historic harbour on the East Neuk of Fife. Enveloped by extensive walled grounds and looking directly across the Firth of Forth to the Isle of May, the house has been carefully divided into three characterful self-contained apartments. Set at ground-floor level, Garden View is an apartment sleeping four in a double and a twin bedroom. French doors in the open-plan sitting and dining room open straight onto the lawn, framing views of the sea and the lovingly tended gardens. The separate kitchen is fully equipped for relaxed self-catering and the modern shower room completes the layout. Reached by the original stone stair, this first-floor apartment commands picture-postcard views over Crail’s harbour, the garden and the open sea. Up to four guests are accommodated in a king bedroom and a twin bedroom. There is a fully fitted kitchen, a family bathroom and an additional shower room. The largest of the three apartments, Sea View sits on the first floor and sleeps six in a king, a double and a twin bedroom. A spacious hall leads to a separate kitchen–diner, a family bathroom, a further shower room and an elegant living room whose tall windows showcase the ever-changing seascape and the May Island on the horizon. Sea View offers ample space for families or friends holidaying together while retaining the same homely comforts found throughout Crail House. EPC Band D.

All apartments have access to a communal laundry with washing machine and tumble dryer. Travel cots can be supplied on request and every apartment is strictly non-smoking.

Crail is one of the most picturesque of the East Neuk fishing villages, its cobbled wynds winding down to a sheltered stone harbour where fresh lobster is landed daily in summer. The Fife Coastal Path passes the gates, opening up miles of cliff and beach walking towards Anstruther in one direction and St Andrews in the other. Golfers are spoilt for choice with Crail Golfing Society’s famous Balcomie Links less than two miles away and more than forty courses within an hour’s drive. Wildlife boat trips to the Isle of May, visits to Scotland’s Secret Bunker, award-winning farm shops, art galleries and some of Scotland’s finest seafood restaurants all lie close at hand, while Edinburgh can be reached in under ninety minutes for a day in the capital.
