Summary

Merlin Cottages offers fantastic self catering accommodation in Penywaun. Set in a scenic countryside setting near Babel, our three cottage can sleeps 5 – 20 people. We are only 3 miles off the A40 between Brecon and the historic town of Llandovery, making us a great base for exploring Carmarthenshire.

Accommodation

Our three cottages are nestled in a tranquil countryside location and boast spectacular views of the Brecon Beacons. All the cottages are tastefully furnished and share a purpose-built games room with a slate snooker table and full size table tennis table. Additionally, guests have use of a walkers room and laundry.

Merlin House

This wonderful house dates from around 1850 and has been beautifully renovated to offer excellent accommodation whilst maintaining original features, including two huge inglenook fireplaces. A spacious kitchen/diner comes with a quirky half-moon walk-in fireplace with a bread oven. The well-equipped kitchen has a dishwasher, washing machine and two under-counter fridges. Unwind in the cosy lounge which has a flat-screen TV and a second large fireplace with a log burner. In total, there are 5 bedrooms, including one downstairs bedroom.

Merlin Barn

This charming barn dates from over 150 years ago and features gorgeous oak timbers. The elegantly renovated barn is brimming with original character and includes underfloor heating and integrated kitchen appliances. A lovely open living area has a toasty wood burner and French doors that offer amazing views of the Brecon Beacons and Crychan Forest.

Merlin High Barn

Our glorious barn was originally used to house the farm’s livestock for over 150 years and now offers quality accommodation. Inside there is a flagstone hallway and stairs leading down to two ensuite double bedrooms. The upper level features a single bedroom, WC and shower room and open plan reception room. A fully-equipped kitchen has a fridge, gas hob, electric oven and cooker hood. Unwind in the peaceful living area which has comfy seating, a log burner, TV and DAB radio with a docking station.

Visiting Penywaun & Exploring Carmarthenshire

We are in the ideal location for exploring the area. The Crychan Forest is within walking distance, offering an abundance of scenic walks and cycles routes. At the Northern side of the forest is Tirabad Outdoor Activity Centre where you can enjoy a range of fun activities and courses, including caving, mountaineering kayaking, canoeing and climbing. Visit the spectacular beaches in the west and the Black Mountain range in the Brecon Beacons National Park in the east. Great attractions to visit in the country include:

National Botanic Garden of Wales.
Dinefwr Castle.
Aberglasney Gardens.
Kidwelly Castle.
Llyn y Fan Fach.
