Tigh a Chaolais
Croir, Isle of Lewis, Western Isles
Summary
Tigh a Chaolais, Croir on The Isle of Lewis, offers superb self catering accommodation in a historic house on The Western Isles. Originally built in 1833, the property is the oldest inhabited house in Bernera but now offers modern and comfortable accommodation in a truly idyllic spot with glorious sea views.
Accommodation
The stunning self catering holiday home was once under the ownership of John Macdonald when Glasgow born Scottish writer William Black came to stay in the house where he penned his notable romance novel A Princess of Thule (1873). It is clear that he took inspiration from the spectacular Hebridean surroundings. The opening lines read: On a small headland off the distant island of Lewis, an old man stood looking out on desolate waste of rain-beaten sea.The house has recently been thoughtfully converted and offers modern, relaxing and comfortable accommodation. The house has a fully fitted kitchen with a range of excellent appliances (including dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer) and a dining table for seating for up to 6 people. There is also a lovely open plan lounge with 2 settees, fire place and a TV, the perfect spot for relaxing in after a busy day exploring this beautiful island. There are also 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
Guests can enjoy relaxing in the enclosed south facing walled garden. Please be aware that the front of the house has unfenced access to the shore. Therefore, young children should not be left unattended in this area
