Welcome to Dobbie’s Barn and to a wonderfully unique property. From attractive outdoor spaces to indoor warmth and comfortable living this bespoke accommodation demonstrates attention to detail with many original artistic features, and is a popular destination.
The village of Spaxton lies within the Quantock Hills designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Dobbie’s Barn sits in its own grounds of 2 acres and is surrounded by farmland. There is a footpath directly outside heading west to the Hills. There is ample, secure parking for up to three cars and further space for bicycles etc. Dobbie’s Barn is also dog-friendly with up to two well-behaved dogs welcome.
Not only do the same guests return every year, but also ‘my’ swallows which nest in the adjoining unoccupied barn. In short, Dobbie’s Barn is a quiet and immensely relaxing space for an undisturbed break. In cooler weather there is a large wood-burning stove (in addition to central heating) and in warmer weather there are various outside seating areas for guest use at both the front and rear of the property.
There is a well-stocked Community Shop in the village within walking distance. A short car drive away (6 minutes) is Blackmore Farm, highly recommended for a cooked breakfast and morning coffee. For good value and quality evening meals there is The Cottage Inn at Keenthorne – less than 10 minutes by car. Various notable attractions include Dunster Castle, Steart Marshes and the North Somerset Coastal footpath, Haynes Motor Museum and Yeovilton Fleet Air-Arm Museum, and the towns of Street and Glastonbury and the city of Wells. The local towns of Bridgwater and Taunton are easily accessible by car.
The layout of accommodation in the main Barn comprises of a ground floor double bedroom with adjoining toilet and wash-basin; a fully fitted open plan kitchen with an extending table to seat 6 guests and a comfortable seating area. Beyond is a family bathroom with shower, bath, toilet and wash-basin. A spiral staircase takes you to a mezzanine floor with a double bed. Please note – this is not suitable for very young children or those with limited mobility. Leading from the kitchen is a large garden room with a further sofa and arm-chairs.
Newly added for 2024 is an attached annex with a ground floor king-sized bed, adjoining bathroom, kitchenette and small mezzanine with soft furnishing. The annex is designated as a child and dog-free area and cannot be booked separately from the main Barn.
Small parties of guests (up to four) are welcome to book the main Barn at a reduced cost without the use of the Annex, but still retaining exclusive use of the rest of the property and its grounds.
Whole weeks preferred but please do enquire about short breaks, a minimum of 3 night stays.
