Summary

Broadmeadows House lies in the heart of the Yarrow Valley, a historic home dating back to the time of Sir Walter Scott. While full of heritage, the house has been carefully modernised to provide stylish self-catering accommodation with a high standard of comfort.

The Big Hoose - Sleeps 10

The Big Hoose occupies almost the entire two middle floors of the house. On the ground floor, guests will find large formal reception rooms, elegant dining and drawing rooms, a cosy snug for reading or watching TV and a well-equipped kitchen with informal breakfast seating for six. Upstairs, the first floor offers spacious bedrooms, most with their own modern bathrooms, along with a games room featuring a half-size billiard table. The suites are named after former owners of Broadmeadows House—Pringle, Laing, Napier and Boyd and for those interested in its past, original plans, drawings and historical records dating back to the 1850s are still preserved.

East Lawn - Sleeps 4

The East Lawn Apartment occupies what was once the kitchen and dairy. It includes two generous bedrooms: one with a king-size bed that can be split into twins if required and another with a double bed looking out across the lawn and valley towards the Duchess Drive and Fastheugh Hill. The sitting room, with its open log fire, creates a cosy retreat in autumn and winter, while French doors open onto a terrace that is perfect for dining or relaxing outdoors.

Uplands - Sleeps 4

The Uplands Apartment was formerly the servants’ quarters. It offers two spacious bedrooms, one with twin antique brass beds and the other with a double bed overlooking the valley. Its top floor sitting room provides stunning views of the surrounding countryside, from the Bowhill estate to Newark Castle, a preserved monument said to be haunted.

West Lawn - Sleeps 2

The West Lawn Apartment, once the servants’ hall and butler’s accommodation, is an intimate hideaway for two. Despite having just one bedroom, its generous proportions and comfortable living room make it a spacious retreat. Overlooking the lawns and fully equipped for short or long stays, it has long been a favourite with guests seeking extra privacy.

We can welcome up to 20 guests when all the accommodation is booked together.

Broadmeadows House is also available for smaller events where the principal guests are resident, such as extended family gatherings or bespoke wedding celebrations. On these occasions, the property is offered for exclusive use, ensuring a private and memorable experience in this historic setting.
