Cheese Room Cottage offers wonderful self-catering accommodation in the hamlet of Marchamley. We are based in a fabulous part of Shropshire, just north of Shrewsbury, ideal for an unforgettable getaway and offering disabled friendly accommodation.
Our charming property has been sympathetically restored to offer accommodation as comfortable as possible, providing a home away from home. The building was originally part of an old dairy farm, used for making and storing cheese.
Our ground floor property has been primarily designed to cater for people with disabilities and features extra-wide doors, plenty of floor space for wheelchairs users, an accessible wet room and wheelchair access underneath the sink and hob in the kitchen. Outside we have a patio garden which is ideal for wheelchairs.
You can relax and unwind in the cosy living room which boasts an original oak-beamed ceiling, a toasty wood burner in the original brick fireplace, comfortable seating and TV/DVD player. Logs are provided for the fire and French doors open onto a lovely patio with a garden table/chairs and BBQ for al fresco dining. A well-equipped L-shaped kitchen area has a built-in fridge with a freezer box, single-drainer sink, electric touch-control ceramic hob and a combination fan oven/grill/microwave. The oak dining table has seating for 3 people.
A spacious double bedroom has two electric singles which can be made as singles or a super king bed. Facilities include a wall-mounted TV and there is a gap underneath the bed to fit a hoist. Additionally, an easy rail bed rail can be placed on one side of the bed. We also have a single bedroom upstairs which has a TV/DVD player. Both rooms share a wet room with non-slip Altro Aquarius flooring. The wall-mounted shower seat can be folded away and the washbasin is at a height suitable for wheelchair users. Either side of the toilet there are grab rails.
We are only a mile from the village of Hodnet, a pretty medieval village with a shop, post office, florist/gift shop and the Pure English China Company. You can enjoy some great food and good drink at The Bear Inn, or a range of restaurants in the area, including the Michelin-star restaurant Docket no. 33 in nearby Whitchurch. Head to the famous Hodnet Hall Gardens and see its stunning gardens and lakes. They also have a lovely tearoom to enjoy. Further attractions to visit include:
The Old Canal Towpath from Ditherington to Uffington.
The World Heritage site at Ironbridge.
The Severn Valley steam Railway.
Alderford Lake.
Attingham Park.
