Summary

The Airlie Estate has been owned by the Ogilvy family since the 15th century and is set within unspoilt countryside in the heart of the breathtaking Angus Glens. Rich in history and natural beauty, the estate offers an idyllic rural escape surrounded by rolling hills, woodland and open landscapes. Guests can choose from two charming self-catering properties, Stable Studio and Square Cottage, both providing a peaceful base for exploring Angus, the Glens and the wider Scottish Highlands.

Stable Studio

Situated on the first floor of the historic stable block at the Airlie Estate, Stable Studio offers a light-filled, characterful retreat in the heart of the Angus Glens. The open-plan layout is complemented by soaring exposed beams, giving the space an airy, relaxed feel, while the extensive use of Douglas fir throughout the walls, floors and handcrafted furnishings brings warmth and a strong connection to nature. As night falls, the studio becomes a snug and welcoming hideaway, with gentle lighting, a crackling wood burner and a generously sized bed layered with feather pillows and wool blankets. The bathroom and toilet are reached via four steps from the main living area and are open to the space without a dividing door. A minimum stay of one night applies. Short Term Licence Number - AN-01132-F.

Square Cottage

This charming cottage is beautifully presented and full of character, with original features and traditional furnishings softened by a calm, neutral colour palette that creates a welcoming and easy-to-relax-in home. From the spacious hallway, the cottage opens into a cosy lounge, perfect for evenings spent gathered around the roaring open fire, with a stable door that can be opened to let in fresh air if the room grows warm. Two steps lead down to a generous kitchen and dining area, where industrial shelving and a classic Belfast sink blend seamlessly with modern touches, including a contemporary range oven, to create a stylish farmhouse feel. Upstairs, the large king-size bedroom is bright and minimalist, offering a peaceful retreat, alongside a comfortable twin room and a traditional bathroom featuring a free-standing roll-top bath. Outside, guests can enjoy ample outdoor space and garden furniture, ideal for al fresco dining and soaking up the surrounding countryside. Short Term Let Licence Number: AN-01060-F.

Visiting the Area

Kirriemuir, known as the gateway to the Angus Glens, is perfectly placed for exploring some of the most scenic parts of Angus. Visitors can enjoy walking and cycling in nearby Glen Clova and Glen Doll, both renowned for dramatic landscapes, waterfalls and wildlife, or explore the rolling farmland and forest trails surrounding the town. Kirriemuir itself offers independent shops, cafés and historic landmarks, including links to author J.M. Barrie, while Glamis Castle, one of Scotland’s most famous castles, is just a short drive away. The wider Angus countryside and coastline are also easily accessible, making Kirriemuir an excellent base for both outdoor adventure and relaxed sightseeing.
