Summary

Visitors often say “why didn’t we find you before” then they book and return year after year. They didn’t find us because we are tucked away in a quiet corner of the village. The village, which offers all you need in the way of shops and eating places, can be very busy. Walk 300 yards through a snicket and there you find a peaceful two acre site called Wraycroft Cottages. We offer you the best of both worlds, an oasis of tranquility but near to all amenities.

Our family has lived in Swaledale for generations, and we have been letting cottages since 1965. We have lots of regular visitors, many having come every year for well over 20 years and one couple have come for over 40.

We must be doing something right! After 50 years of running holiday cottages we could think of retiring but our visitors will not hear of it. Starting with a field, we planned and built the properties ourselves. The three linked cottages, each sleeping four persons, are extremely well planned, well equipped, clean, warm and comfortable. All doors and windows are double glazed. We call them ‘the tardis’ cottages, they may look small from outside but visitors are amazed when they step inside and find lots of room.

There are also water radiators which heat by the electricity and open coal fire. Visitors say how warm they find the accommodation.

The properties known as Ashcroft, Beechcroft and Cedarcroft, each have an entrance porch with space for coats, boots and extra coal. From there a door leads into a good sized kitchen which has many matching wooden units, full sized electric cooker, microwave, fridge, washing machine, freezer, stainless steel pans and every cooking and dining utensil possible. Attention to detail is high on our list. A recent visitor wrote ’we really appreciated the way everything worked so efficiently”

Lounges have very comfortable seating, open fires, Wi-Fi, flat screen televisions with free sat reception, DVD players, books, and magazines. They all face South so, like the patios, catch all the sunshine available. The views are spectacular and look out across the gardens to the hills of Harkerside beyond. There is a door from each lounge to the individual patios.

There is private parking, bike storage and so much more. We do all we can to provide a place of peace and tranquility where visitors can relax in beautiful surroundings. Visitors have access to our extensive garden and riverbank. There is lots of seating placed to take in the best views. You can easily spend days by the ponds, the riverside or amongst the trees and shrubs, watching the widlife and letting the world go by. For the energetic we have a portable badminton net.

Reductions for parties of two, breaks are offered throughout the year. Living on site we do our own maintenance, cleaning and are easily contacted. Inspected annually by Quality Assurance we are always awarded 4 stars and 100% for cleanliness.

Walking, cycling, visiting beauty spots by car are all on the doorstep. The area is full of history and is famous for lead mining and sheep rearing. The village has two grocery shops, a post office, a bakery, gift and craft shops, three pubs, cafes and a small weekly market.
