Summary

Fairview offers self catering accommodation located in Gulberwick near Lerwick in the Shetland Islands, right on the coast. The house was built when Gulberwick was populated by nothing more than a few crofts and farms, together with the school and church. It faces landscaped gardens surrounded on three sides by fields and has a wonderful open outlook.

The location of the self catering cottage gives it a unique sense of privacy with the beach a 5 minute stroll away while being only a short drive from all the amenities of Lerwick.

Accommodation

The first sitting room, part of the original house with some of the traditional look retained, has a fireplace for which peats are provided (kept in the rear porch). It has comfortable leather chairs and a good sized coffee table for drinks or games and a music system with an eclectic collection of CDs. This room gives access to the west room.

With two electric ovens and a gas hob including a wok burner, the large Rangemaster kitchen range will give you ample scope to produce delicious meals if you enjoy cooking. At Fairview, you will find a welcome pack of food essentials to get you going and we ensure that, on arrival, there are supplies of tea and coffee as well as food wrap, foil, oils, condiments and a range of herbs and spices for your cooking. We also provide seal-able plastic containers for your picnic foods.

Both bedrooms at Fairview are set up as twins. Every single bed has a double sized feather duvet, two generous pillows and 100% cotton bed linen. We can arrange to have the beds in one room set up as a double if you would prefer it. Please also let us know if you would prefer a duvet and pillows with man-made fibre filling.

Each bedroom has an en-suite toilet and wash-hand basin, including a heated towel rail. These rooms also have hairdryers and plenty of space for your toiletries. If you like them, this is where you will find hot water bottles. Z bed available if needed.

The open views are reflected in the sense of space in the bedrooms and the warm colours and luxurious cotton bedding make these rooms comfortable places to relax.

The generously sized bathroom downstairs has a separate shower and semi-sunken bath - an inviting space for a candle-lit soak.

Also accessed from the rear hall is the utility room, equipped with a washing machine and condensing dryer. We provide Ecover detergent and fabric softener. Additionally, there is a pulley - another great Scottish domestic helper! It's ideal for hanging up larger damp items to dry overnight, as the room is kept warm by the central heating boiler. You will find controls for the heating here too. This is also the place to pick up your beach towels.

Visiting Gulberwick & Exploring the Shetland Islands

There are two supermarkets just 5-10 minutes away by car in Lerwick ( Co-op and Tesco) plus a number of smaller shops in Commercial Street in Lerwick. Both supermarkets are en route if you are coming to Fairview from the ferry terminal.

Fairview has free Wi-Fi internet. Shetland Islands Council provides free internet access at the Lerwick public library, the cafe/bar at the Mareel Arts complex, the Islesburgh Community Centre and some of its other premises.

The Clickimin leisure complex is just 7 minutes away in Lerwick and has an excellent pool with Rapid River Ride, Outdoor lagoon, 2 flumes, a toddler pool and Hydrotherapy pool. The Apex fitness centre has all the cardiovascular and resistance equipment you might need. There are many fitness classes available throughout the week.
