Old School House is a cosy detached cottage, sleeping 4, which nestles under Byrness Hill in the Northumberland National Park. Our cottage is perfect for those who want a break away from the stresses of modern city living. The Pennine Way passes the front door and there are plenty of trails and paths to explore in the national park and Kielder Forest.
Whether you are a couple or a family, you will find that the Old School House has everything you need for an enjoyable self catering break. Facilities include:
Large kitchen/dining room with oil fired Rayburn, modern electric oven and hobs, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine/dryer. The Rayburn provides hot water, cooking facilities and central heating.
Sitting room with wood burning stove, flat screen TV, DVD player and a collection of books, games, maps & DVD’s.
Ground floor shower room.
Upstairs Double and Twin bedrooms.
Outside is a well-established garden to the front and a fully enclosed lawn at the rear. There is an outdoor seating area which is a perfect place to enjoy your morning brew (or a stronger tipple at the end of a day’s exploring). Lots of interesting birds (and the occasional red squirrel) visit the garden and swallows frequently nest under the eaves.
Byrness is the last village in England before the A68 disappears over the Cheviot Hills into Scotland. Its “away from it all” location makes Byrness an ideal centre for lovers of the outdoors, yet there are good pubs, cafes and shops within easy reach. Byrness is also an excellent base from which to explore the many attractions of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders, including:
Kileder observatory.
Hadrian’s Wall.
Cragside, Wallington and Howick houses (and many more).
Historic Jedburgh.
Alnwick, Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh and Warkworth castles.
The Holy Island of Lindisfarne and the Farne islands.
The wild Northumberland coast.
