Long House Cottages are located within a stunning part of Cumbria and are an ideal base for couples, families and friends who are looking to walk and explore the beautiful Lake District National Park. Nestled in a stunning location in Great Langdale near Ambleside, our holiday homes stand in a beautiful south facing terraced garden, which has superb mountain views of the head of the valley. There are four holiday cottages sleeping from two to six people. Sorry but we do not allow pets.

Yan, Tan & Tethera

Known individually as Yan, Tan and Tethera (named after the traditional way of counting sheep), the 3 self contained holiday cottages were converted from a traditional Lakeland bank barn, with great attention paid to detail, comfort and facilities.

Each holiday cottage sleeps up to 4 people in 2 separate bedrooms, both with en suite bathrooms. The terraced garden has sitting out areas to enjoy the superb mountain views of the head of the valley. Enclosed off road parking is available.

All of the holiday homes have a lovely living/dining room, fully equipped kitchen, ground floor double bedroom, upper galleried twin bedroom and en suite bathroom facilities.

Long House

This is a traditional Lakeland cottage that dates back to the 17th Century and can sleep up to 6 people in 3 bedrooms. The holiday cottage still has character such as old oak beams, original slate floors, stained glass windows and log burning stoves.

Inside the holiday home, there is a cosy sitting room, well equipped kitchen, and a large dining room with a table and 6 chairs. The holiday cottage includes everything you need for an enjoyable break away to the Cumbrian countryside. All rooms are heated by oil fired central heating, which is included in the tariff. The sitting room and dining room also have log burning stoves (logs provided). The bedrooms are fully carpeted. Downstairs there are slate flagged floors with carpeted areas. An in-depth information file is provided, as well as books and table games/jigsaws.

The garden faces south and has a sitting out area to enjoy the superb mountain views of the head of the valley.

Visiting Great Langdale & Exploring Cumbria

Our holiday cottages are situated in the middle of the Great Langdale valley, in 2 acres of garden and fellside. This makes them perfectly situated for walking. There is no need to move the car as some of the best walks in the Lake District start right from your front door! Nearby routes include:

Langdale Valley.
Elterwater & Chapel Stile.
Elterwater Lake & Skelwith Force.
Bowfell & Esk Pike.
The two Langdales.
Grasmere.
Plus much more.

The Great Langdale valley contains the two small villages of Elterwater and Chapel Stile, originating around the old gunpowder works and slate quarry. Together with the small lake of Elterwater, the Great Langdale Beck, Skelwith Falls and the high surrounding fells, Langdale offers some of the most interesting and varied walking country in the English Lakes. For the motorist, we are central to the whole of Cumbria, and Langdale provides one of the shortest routes to the unspoilt Eskdale and Wasdale valleys - over the Wrynose and Hardknott Passes!
