Wigeon Lodge
Allerthorpe, East Yorkshire
Summary
Increasingly, many of us are seeking to disconnect, reconnect and step away from the grid to escape the relentless pressures of modern life. Turning off your iPhone can be surprisingly refreshing. It's a chance to look around and look up, rather than down at a screen, and to engage in meaningful conversations with those around you. Take the opportunity to immerse yourself in a physical book – ideally, one that's not on a Kindle. Life races by, and it’s crucial to remember to hit pause.
Enjoy the stunning vistas over vast, serene lakes situated within the secluded 30-acre expanse of The Old Gravel Pits, a private wooded nature reserve.
This tranquil and serene holiday destination offers large stretches of peaceful, fish-filled waters, frequented by wildfowl and other bird species, creating a private and exclusive haven for our guests. The coarse fishing and nature reserve are dedicated exclusively to our visitors for fishing, birdwatching, and enjoying the surrounding wildlife.
Wigeon Lodge
The surprisingly roomy open-plan living area includes a dining space and a kitchen designed for social interaction, allowing conversations to flow freely. A cast iron gas stove keeps the space warm on cooler days and French doors open onto a verandah with a view of the lake. The accommodation features two double bedrooms, one with a king-size bed and the other with twin beds. The bathroom is equipped with a spacious separate shower cubicle complete with a seat and handrail.Outside, a private fishing platform accessible from the verandah, along with bank fishing, caters to wheelchair users.
Walking paths crisscross the reserve, inviting you to delve deeper into this wildlife sanctuary. Benches strategically placed along these paths offer perfect spots for sketching, photography, or simply enjoying the variety of woodland and field birds. For avid birdwatchers, a hide near one of the lakes and a plant and wildlife identification book provided in each lodge enhance your nature exploration.
The fishing opportunities are plentiful around the lakes, which make up about half of the reserve. Private fishing platforms at each lodge offer convenient spots to catch Rudd, Roach, Tench, Carp, Bream, and Ide.
