Outside the holiday cottages - The rivers are swift-flowing until they meet at the confluence, just beyond the cottages. From here the Vyrnwy widens with some slow flowing and willow-lined stretches where fish tuck in against eroding banks on the outside of bends. Cunning wild brown trout, graceful grayling, chub and salmon, in season, test the skills of anglers. So cast off your worries and come and have a go.

Visiting Meifod & Exploring Powys

Walking along the riverside you may be lucky and catch sight of some of the wealth of wildlife, which lives along the banks. A kingfisher or two, maybe two or three swans gliding along or sunning themselves on the field. Even otters have been spotted occasionally. In the summer there are many migrating birds, such as swallows, which may awaken the light sleeper with their dawn chorus. It never feels like summer has arrived until you hear the curlew with its long plaintive call echoing down the valley. Newbridge is also on the edge of Kite Country; look out for these majestic birds soaring whilst you fish or wonder. In the winter you can catch the odd glimpse of a badger or a sly cunning fox as well as your winter birds such as the robin and the Canada geese flying high above.
