Summary

The Old Shippon is a lovingly restored former milking parlour tucked beside a gentle stream in the peaceful valley of Mineshop, just inland from Crackington Haven on Cornwall’s rugged north coast. Sleeping up to six guests, this south-facing cottage comes with its own enclosed garden and an expansive deck that looks over woodland frequented by deer and other wildlife. A modern heating system, fast fibre Wi-Fi and a wood-burning stove ensure year-round comfort, while the coast, cafés and pub at Crackington Haven can be reached on foot along the picturesque path known as Lovers’ Lane.

The Old Shippon

The property features a cosy double bedroom equipped with a Smart TV, alongside two bright twin bedrooms, all served by a modern bathroom with a bath and shower over. A fully equipped kitchen, includes a dishwasher and there is a dining area, perfect for family meals. The comfortable lounge has a Smart TV and looks out over a recently extended, spacious decked area. For added warmth and ambience, there’s a wood-burning stove, while outside a large, private, enclosed garden offers ample space to relax, complete with a gas barbecue available from Easter 2025.

Your beds will be freshly made for your arrival, but please remember to bring your own towels; if you need to do any washing during your stay, we do have a convenient laundry room available for your use.

Visiting the Area

Mineshop lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where wooded valleys meet soaring cliffs. A half-hour stroll brings you to Crackington Haven’s sandy cove, popular with families, surfers and South West Coast Path walkers alike. Northwards the path leads to the harbour village of Boscastle, while heading south reveals the legendary ruins of Tintagel Castle. The bustling seaside town of Bude, with its sea pool and surf schools, is a short drive and Widemouth Bay offers wide sands and dramatic sunsets. Inland you can explore Bodmin Moor, seek out the waterfalls at St Nectan’s Glen or sample artisan produce at farm shops and local breweries. Museums, galleries and historic houses across Cornwall provide plenty to do when you are not simply unwinding on the deck listening to the stream.
