Accommodation

The Byre is a detached holiday cottage, constructed on the site of the original byre. It features underfloor heating on the ground floor and radiators upstairs, all powered by an air source heat pump, ensuring warmth and comfort throughout your stay.

The spacious ground floor includes a large sitting and dining room equipped with a 32″ Freeview TV, DVD, and video. The well-equipped kitchen and separate utility room provide all the conveniences of home and a bathroom with a shower over the bath is also located on this level. The ground floor is fully tiled, with rugs in the sitting room for added comfort.

Upstairs, there are two twin bedrooms, one of which can be configured as a double. Both bedrooms feature south-facing dormer windows, with a Velux window on the north side for extra light. An additional bed can be added to the bedrooms or the sitting room if needed. The upper floor has pine flooring with rugs for warmth and style.

The cottage also boasts a large heated hall and utility area, perfect for drying jackets and outdoor gear. Guests can enjoy uninterrupted views of the most spectacular side of Ben Nevis, with direct access to traffic-free walking paths. Ample private parking is available and the rural setting makes for a peaceful retreat.

The Byre offers free Wi-Fi, and bikes or skis can be stored in the garage by arrangement. Electric cars can be charged at cost using a type 2 untethered charging point. The Byre has been awarded a four-star grading by Visit Scotland and is part of their "Walkers Welcome" scheme, making it the perfect base for outdoor enthusiasts.

The Area

Banavie has long been regarded as an ideal base for a Lochaber holiday, offering some of the best views of Ben Nevis. Historically, it was the original starting point for climbing the mountain before the construction of the pony path and the establishment of the summit observatory in 1883. The village is best known for Neptune’s Staircase, the largest set of locks on the Caledonian Canal. There’s always something to see, from tall ships passing through the locks to pleasure craft and fishing boats heading for the western waters. During the summer, railway enthusiasts often gather by the canal bridge to capture photos of the Jacobite steam train on its daily journey to and from Mallaig.
