Accommodation

The Piggery Bellevue is a first-floor apartment. It is fully self-contained with high end fixtures and fittings and accessed via an external flight of stairs.

Large living area with a wood-burning stove and a large corner sofa with plenty of space for two people to stretch out and read or watch TV with a DVD player and Freeview channels. The dining table can be folded away when not in use.

Corner kitchen with fitted cupboards and an efficient layout that includes all of the appliances and equipment guests need to cook including a full-size electric oven and gas hob, built-in fridge with freezer compartment and skylights adding to the sense of light and space.

Bedroom with beautiful views, a double bed, bedside tables and reading lights, and a big walk-in wardrobe. The spacious fully tiled ensuite has a walk-in shower, WC, handbasin and skylights.

Outside: The apartment has its own private patio with garden furniture and BBQ where you can sit and enjoy the tranquil views and dine alfresco. Guests are welcome to access nearby woodland and a summerhouse (‘Tattie Bothy’) via the owner’s garden.

Visiting Arbroath & Exploring Angus

Friockheim is ideal if you need to pop out for a pint of milk or you fancy a pub meal. Its small supermarket is well stocked with all of the essentials, and The Star Inns serves tasty meals. There’s a second pub, The Railway Inn, which doesn’t serve food but which has a good choice of whisky. For anything else, it’s only a 10-minute drive to Arbroath where you will find an excellent variety of amenities in addition to a pretty working harbour, beautiful beaches and the lovely ruins of Arbroath Abbey, famed for being the place for the signing of the Scottish declaration of independence. Arbroath is famous for the quality of its ‘’smokies’’ - line-caught haddock smoked over oak chips in the traditional way. You’ll smell it as you walk around the harbour where there are a handful of families running the same smokehouses their ancestors did generations ago.

You can happily walk for miles around the cliffs of the Angus coastline, past beaches like Luan Bay which stretches for two miles north from Ethie Haven to Boddin Point. The remains of the 12th Century castle still stand as a deterrent to any would-be Viking invaders. Take your binoculars for bird watching, or book through local stables to experience the exhilaration of horse riding on the sand. Days out can include driving an hour or so to the breathtaking Angus Glens, where there are miles of footpaths and cycling routes. Play a round of golf, charter a fishing boat or fish the rivers for trout and salmon, or marvel at the magnificence of Glamis Castle and gardens. Dundee is only 20-minutes away, with places to eat, drink and shop as well as specialist museums and galleries; and Ospreys at Balgavies Loch is even closer for wildlife enthusiasts (although there is a fair bit to spot from the garden of The Piggery including deer and red squirrels, as well as the owner’s free-range chickens (fresh eggs normally available!) and at times orphan lambs which guests are welcome to help feed.

The Piggery Bellevue is available for bookings all year round and just waiting for when you get a chance to escape to the beauty of Angus.
