Summary

The Head in Grimness provides self catering accommodation, set in one of the most scenic vantage points in South Ronaldsay. We enjoy stunning views over the sea and farmland and make an excellent touring base for exploring Orkney.

Accommodation

We are surrounded by 40 acres of rough grazing and heather, just a stone’s throw from the sandy beach at the bottom of the garden. The headland around the cottage is brimming with wildflowers and breeding birds in the spring and summer months.

This charming cottage has an attractive sitting room with a multi-fuel stove, Freeview TV and DVD player. A well-equipped kitchen comes with a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, gas cooker and microwave. Savour some delicious meals at the dining area and a useful utility room comes with a washing machine and tumble dryer.

Bedrooms consist of a double, twin and single room. The twin room comes with a TV. All the rooms share a bathroom with a shower over the bath. Additionally, there is a wet room. All bed linen and towels are included.

Outside there is a walled garden with a patio area, perfect for a morning coffee or an afternoon feast whilst savouring your surroundings.

Visiting Grimness & Exploring Orkney

We are only a 10-minute drive to the village from St Margaret's Hope where the Pentland Ferries catamaran, Alfred, arrives from Gills Bay three times a day. In the village, you will find shops, a post office and restaurants. A 20-minute drive will take you across Churchill Barriers, past the Italian Chapel in Kirkwall. From here you can take a ferry ride to the outer islands. Further attractions to visit include:

Old Man of Hoy.
St Magnus Cathedral.
Maes Howe.
Standing Stones of Stenness.
Skara Brae.
