Monks Retreat in the hamlet of Millers Dale, Derbyshire, offers wonderful self catering accommodation in 3 charming cottages in the Peak District. Located where Monksdale joins Millers Dale, an area famous for its breathtaking beauty, we will prove to be an unforgettable holiday experience. There are many walks directly from our door!

Our 3 stunning cottages are individually designed and in a secluded location. They can be let individually or collectively for larger families.

Monk Memories

Our lovely cottage sleeps 2 people and has been thoughtfully restored to keep its rustic charm while offering modern day luxury. It has a double bedroom with en suite bathroom with bath and shower over. The fully fitted kitchen comes with a range of excellent facilities: electric cooker, fridge and microwave etc. Laundry facilities are available in a well-equipped communal laundry room.

Being all on the ground floor, the cottage is suitable for people of limited mobility.

Friar’s Folly

Our superb cottage sleeps up to 4 people in beautiful accommodation. From the lounge, a three-stage staircase gives access to the landing for the two bedrooms, one a double with luxury iron bedstead and one twin. Both bedrooms have very old oak beams and trusses preserved in their medieval state and also off the landing is the bathroom with bath, power shower, toilet, wash basin and more beams. The fully fitted kitchen comes with fridge, microwave, electric cooker etc and a dining area to wine and dine on.

Facilities include TV and DVD player and outside is a wonderful garden with furniture, pergolas, picnic table and barbecue. This is the perfect spot relaxing with a morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening.

Abbot’s Abode

Our spacious cottage sleeps up to 4 + 2 children. There is a dining kitchen with tastefully fitted units and electric cooker, fridge/freezer. Dishwasher and microwave oven etc. Our large and comfortable sitting room has stunning views of the garden from a large window. A TV, DVD player and cast iron stove are also provided. There are 2 cosy bedrooms: a galleried family bedroom with twin beds below and 2 more twin beds on the gallery, accessed by a short ladder; the double bedroom also huge beams, a luxury iron bedstead and wonderful views of Millers Dale. The bathroom has a bath with shower over and a washbasin and toilet.

The pretty garden area is spacious and has a secluded patio with barbecue and garden furniture, excellent for relaxing and unwinding with friends or family.

Each cottage has the use of a separate fully - equipped laundry. Cots, high chairs and stair gates can be supplied to ensure young children can enjoy their stay in comfort and safety. All cottages have central heating

Visiting Millers Dale & Exploring Derbyshire

All the cottages are situated where Monksdale joins Millers Dale in the heart of the limestone area of the Peak District. This is an area noted for its beautiful dales and limestone uplands which give endless scope for exploring on foot, by bicycle or car. Monksdale is a national nature reserve particularly noted for its wildflowers and rugged scenery.

Millers Dale offers delightful walks along the River Wye or on the bed of the former Midland Railway track where a good deal of industrial archaeology lends particular interest to your exploration. You could spend endless happy hours on foot without having to use the car at all. Further afield, you will find the stunning Lathkill Dale and the Castleton area noted for its caves with stalactite formations and a Norman castle.

Tideswell is nearby with its church, dubbed the “Cathedral of the Peak”, as well as a range of shops, sports facilities and the tradition of well dressing which it shares with many other peak district villages.
