Summary

Middle Coombe Farm offers outstanding exclusive self catering accommodation in Uplowman, set on a stunning estate of over 400 acres of private ground and woodland. For those who are looking for a venue for special events, we are perfect for weddings and we also have a thatched Cider Barn that gets used for special occasions, retreats, artistic breaks, celebrations, music and other events or workshops.

The farmhouse

This fabulous Grade II Listed property is perfect for a family or group looking for somewhere special to stay. Upon arrival, you can sit, relax and enjoy a delicious cream tea in the farmhouse kitchen which is specially prepared for your arrival. The house sleeps a comfy maximum of 16 people so everybody can congregate together around the big old kitchen table.

You can unwind in the spacious drawing room which comes with stunning Jacobean wood panelling, sumptuous sofas and a roaring log fire. We also have a playroom to enjoy in our library which has a concert piano, TV, children’s games, toys and activities. This room also has a variety of children’s DVD’s and a TV complete with Freeview, Wi-Fi and a DVD player.

Seven beautiful bedrooms are available, including 3 double en suites and a family bathroom. The bedrooms enjoy wonderful period features and antique furniture.

The Farmhouse has interlinking bedrooms so please watch our Walk through which will walk you through both properties so that you can be sure that the historic 1537 Farmhouse bedroom layout is suitable for your party.

There is a large back courtyard attached to the farmhouse with an open fire and gas BBQ. This is a wonderful space for alfresco dinning, toasting marshmallow and star gazing in the evenings, it's just magical!

Allensdown Barn

We also offer wonderful accommodation in our newly restored barn which is adjacent to the farmhouse. The barn sleeps up to 7 people and includes a large kitchen, 2 bath/showrooms and a living room/playroom with a television. Two spacious bedrooms are available, with both including a double and single bed. The rooms share a bathroom and downstairs there is a small double room with en suite facilities.

We have a range of facilities on-site that guests of all ages can enjoy. Our outdoor swimming pool is heated from May to September and there are luxurious wide steps that lead into the clear water. The wonderful large eco hot tub (seats 6) is situated right next to the pool and is open all year round. Both are set inside private hedged gardens with a changing house set at the back. Two outdoor gas showers are set next to the hot tub and pool. This sunken garden with a large swimming pool provides a wonderful retreat on a hot summer’s day and in autumn there is nothing like running from the back door of the house and plunging straight into the wonderful heat and bubbles of the hot tub.

The Cider Barn – Games room

This is a great place to hang out no matter your age. From Mid May to mid July the games are set up in a marquee in the meadow. We have a beautiful slate floor in the barn which keeps the barn beautifully cool in the hot summer months and warm with underfloor heating in the coldest months. A great place to just hang out if you are a teenager and get into the spirit of the half-sized pool table competitions and tennis table tournaments. We have seen families involved in major league competitions for the entire week with a prize-giving night at the end. The younger ones might like to take over the other end of the barn as a performing arts studio for putting on a show for their elders they use the dressing up boxes from the house for their costumes.

In our meadow there is an outdoor play area with a trampoline, trapeze, small low climbing wall and football post out in the meadow.

Whether you fancy a quiet weekend break in Devon, propped on a comfy sofa reading a book from the well-stocked shelves; enjoying a stout walk in the extensive acres of Devon woodland; playing the children’s and grown-ups games; or a bike ride to a local pub, Middle Coombe Farm has something for you. We have extensive grounds with a large diversity of natural as well as cultivated features. We introduce new facilities and project each year and have always a new talking point for visitors every season!
