Summary
Hartshanger is an Edwardian gentleman's residence set above the village of Porlock in the heart of the Exmoor National Park. The servant’s quarters in the main house and the coach house were converted into beautiful self-catering accommodation by the previous owners of the house. We have lived here since 1996.
About Hartshanger
The house is situated within grounds of about 5 acres with lovely views over Porlock Bay towards Wales. It is a peaceful place, with the only sounds being that of the surf on the beach below and the occasional call from a seagull, buzzard or sheep. It is the ideal place for those wanting to get away from it all and relax.The accommodation at Hartshanger Holidays comprises 2 self-catering flats known as High Hanger and Little Hanger. High Hanger is in what was the servant’s quarters on the second floor of the main house. It sleeps 4 with 1 double and 1 twin room. Little Hanger is in what was the old coach house. It sleeps 5/ 6 in 2 double rooms and a twin room.
General Information for both Flats:
Bed linen, bath and hand towels are provided.
Normal use of electricity and night storage heaters is included.
Both flats have a hairdryer, iron, TV, video/DVD and radio alarm clock.
Both kitchens are fully equipped for 6 people, each with an electric kettle, toaster, coffee cafetiere, fridge freezer and full-size electric hob.
Little Hanger has a dishwasher and a full-sized oven and High Hanger has a flatbed combined microwave/grill/convection oven.
A cot can be arranged for both High Hanger and Little Hanger.
High Hanger comprises:
Double room with own washbasin and unusual painted ceiling. There is also a twin room with a view of the sea through a circular window. There is a large bathroom with a roll-top bath/shower mixer and washstand with basin. Separate WC with basin. Shower room with electric shower. The sitting room has cane furniture and patio door to an outside balcony with table and chairs. A ladder leads up to the roof terrace with sun loungers. Kitchen/dining room/lounge with dining table and four chairs and a large sofa.Little Hanger comprises:
Two double rooms with exposed beams. The main bedroom has an en suite with a shower. There is also a smaller bedroom with a full-sized single and a smaller single. There is a bathroom with a walk-in shower. The sitting room has seating for 5/6.There are large sliding patio doors giving access to Little Hanger’s own private garden on the same level. There is a terrace with a barbecue area, a table and six chairs and an area of lawn. There is a kitchen/dining area with table and chairs to seat six and matching dresser. It has a wood burner with free wood. The tack room below the flat has been converted into a laundry room complete with washing machine, tumble dryer and hanging airer for the exclusive use of visitors staying in Little Hanger and High Hanger. Bikes can be stored here. There is also a freezer here for your use.
Visiting Porlock & Exploring Somerset
Porlock is a lively, friendly village and there is always something going on. There are two churches, C of E and Methodist, a medical practice, library and visitor centre. As for shops, we boast two small supermarkets, a butcher, pharmacy, hardware store, Post Office, two art galleries, haberdashery, a garage, printers, antique shop, two estate agents and numerous gift and sweet shops.For more information please visit our website.
Rates: From £500 to £800 per week depending on season & unit. £20.00 for a dog.
Maximum of 6 people in the largest unit.
Children are welcome.
Pets are welcome in Little Hanger.
