Accommodation

The properties are set in an acre of grounds with panoramic views towards the Clee Hills and beyond. Working farmland is all around, with easy access for walking provided by a network of public footpaths. Visitors are welcome to share part of the large garden and the courtyard. We garden with wildlife in mind and enjoy the many birds, bees and butterflies that visit us. This is a great spot for birdwatchers. Buzzards are always soaring high above us and sometimes a red kite or two come by. Mortimer Forest is just a short drive away adding yet more interest for ornithologists.

We were awarded National Accessible Scheme Level 1 and we are well equipped to help our less mobile guests to enjoy their holiday. We are pleased to welcome disabled guests and are happy to discuss your specific requirements with you. Weavers and Kit Cottages are particularly suitable with easy access from the courtyard.

All of the cottages have a wealth of exposed beams and stone features. (Our taller guests should take care in Jinney Ring, Stable and Kibble Mill.) Leintwardine village, a couple of miles away, is prettily located on the banks of the River Teme.

We provide:- Duvets, blankets, bed linen and all bathroom and kitchen towels. There is a selection of books and games, as well as tourist information and maps of the local area in each cottage. All are equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, full-sized fridge and television, DVD player. In Jinney Ring Cottage there is a dishwasher and washing machine. Radio / clock / alarm and hairdryers are provided in all cottages.

All heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are included in the cost of the holiday. Jinney Ring has a washing machine and for other cottages laundry facilities are available on request. Parking is close to the cottages.

Local Area

In the village there are two pubs with restaurants, The Sun Inn, a nationally acclaimed ale house and a fish and chip shop. The Village Shop/Grocer, butcher, doctors and the garage, provide excellent local services.

Please note that all the cottages are non-smoking, but guests are welcome to smoke in the gardens.

For our young visitors we have a baby's cot and high chair. Toys for indoor and outdoor play are available and babysitting can be arranged.

Things to do:- Whatever the season, there is plenty to do. There are great opportunities for walkers and nature-lovers, for anglers and bird-watchers, for golfers and geologists. Public rights-of-way are there for you to walk through the woods and fields, explore the quiet valleys and lanes and climb to the top of the hills to marvel at the view. Nearby are Wenlock Edge, the Longmynd, Clee Hill, the Teme Valley, Mortimer Forest and Offa's Dyke Path.

Border castles are in abundance - notably Stokesay, Clun, Powis and Ludlow - and there are several National Trust properties within a short drive. The village of Leintwardine, once a Roman settlement, is only two miles away with an annual coracle regatta.

There is much to discover in the nearby towns - Church Stretton, Bishop's Castle, Much Wenlock, Tenbury Wells, Leominster, Knighton and, above all, Ludlow. (For John Betjeman this was England's loveliest small town.) Antiques and crafts, teashops and bookshops abound and there are many attractive villages in the area, including those linked by the Black and White Trail, a drive through the Herefordshire cider country.

Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, the Malvern Hills and the 'Three Choirs' cities of Hereford and Worcester are all within easy reach. As well as the Elgar associations this is also the country of A.E. Housman, Mary Webb, Malcolm Saville and Brother Cadfael.

Public transport:- Regular bus service between Ludlow and Knighton passes our gate. We can meet main line trains in Ludlow.

Location:- Located between Ludlow (7 miles to the East) and the Welsh Border (5 miles to the West), Mocktree Barns are an ideal base for exploring the delightful countryside of South Shropshire, Herefordshire and mid-Wales, one of the few 'Tranquil Areas' left in England.
