Woodpecker Cottage is a delightful, traditional cottage located in the picturesque conservation village of Bladnoch, in the heart of Galloway, Southwest Scotland. Just under a mile from Wigtown, Scotland’s National Book Town, the cottage offers a charming blend of historic character and modern comfort, making it an ideal base for exploring this beautiful region.

The living room is a bright and welcoming space arranged around an Aga glass-fronted, multi-fuel stove. With comfortable sofas, a television and sturdy hand-painted furniture, it’s the perfect spot to unwind. A collection of board games and a diverse selection of books, from biographies to local history, are provided for your enjoyment. There is also a separate dining area overlooking the garden, creating a cosy setting for meals. Wi-Fi is available throughout the cottage.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge, freezer, electric oven, hob, microwave and dishwasher, along with every essential utensil, from a corkscrew to a garlic press. A dining table that seats six and a dresser facing the rear garden add to the charm and practicality of this space.

The cottage features three tastefully decorated bedrooms, offering comfortable accommodation for guests. On the ground floor, there is a double bedroom, while upstairs, you’ll find another double bedroom and a twin bedroom, all thoughtfully designed to provide a restful and inviting atmosphere.

At the back of the house, a secure, well-planted courtyard offers a private outdoor space furnished with garden furniture and a mobile barbecue. Beyond the courtyard lies an 80-yard garden. For additional entertainment, the games room, located in an outbuilding at the rear of the property, is equipped with a pool table, table tennis and dartboard, providing fun for all ages.

The surrounding area is rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage. Safe sandy beaches, rolling hills, quiet country roads and rugged coastlines make it an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. Galloway is home to several beautiful gardens, including the renowned Logan Botanic Gardens, Scotland’s most exotic. There are also numerous golf courses in the area, with one located just a five-minute walk from the cottage. Across a field from the cottage, the River Bladnoch offers opportunities for salmon and trout fishing, with day permits available. Just a short walk away, a traditional child-friendly pub and restaurant with a beer garden can be found on the riverbank. Bladnoch is also the home of Scotland’s southernmost distillery, a beautifully maintained complex that produces fine malts and offers daily tours and whisky tastings. A country house pub and restaurant are also within easy walking distance, adding to the appeal of this charming location.
