Wydon Farm is a former traditional 17th century Lakeland Farmstead set in 8 acres with fine views of Blencathra. Our wonderful self catering accommodation is situated on the outskirts of Penruddock, the cottages have quick access to the entire National Park.
Wydon is only 6 miles from junction 40 of the M6, almost midway between Penrith and Keswick on the A66, and 6 miles from Ullswater.
This gorgeous cottage sleeps two, ideal for a romantic getaway in an idyllic rural location. The light and airy living room has a full height window overlooking the garden and fields beyond and a french door leading out to your own private patio ( table and chairs) and garden. The living area includes comfy seating, toasty woodburner, 32'' smart television, dvd player and access to wi-fi is available at no extra cost.
Rustle up some meals in the fully equipped kitchen which has an electric hob, electric oven, microwave and fridge etc. together with a small dining table and chairs. Stairs out of the living room lead into a double bedroom. The recently refurbished ensuite has WC, wash hand basin, shower cubicle and heated towel rail.
This charming two bedroomed cottage sleeps four but is equally ideal for a couple seeking that cozy cottage for two relaxing break in the country. The open plan ground floor provides a particularly comfortable living area with two seater sofas, smart television and dvd player. Wi-fi is available at no extra cost. Cook up a storm in the well equipped kitchen which has an electric fan oven with four ring hob and extractor over, a microwave, refrigerator, kettle and toaster etc. Enjoy some delicious meals around the dining table which seats four.
Upstairs there are two attractive bedrooms. The double bedroom has a large ceiling beam, whilst the second bedroom also has a large ceiling beam with an adult size wooden bunk bed and a west facing window with fine views towards Blencathra, you may even capture a view of one of the lovely sunsets. Both rooms share a bathroom which has WC, wash basin and shower over the bath.
Our superb cottage is great for a family or group looking for somewhere special to stay. The original cart door opens into the light filled kitchen/ dining area which is well equipped with a range of appliances including an electric oven and hob with extractor over, microwave, fridge freezer, full sized dishwasher and filter coffee machine etc. Enjoy your meals on the bespoke oak farmhouse table and chairs whilst enjoying the open aspect out to the garden and fields beyond.
A delightful living room is perfect for relaxing in after a day of sightseeing. Excellent facilities include comfortable seating, a 40'' Smart television and a DVD player. Wi-fi is available at no extra cost. Outside there is a luxurious hot tub to soak your troubles away in which may be booked as an optional extra.
Three beautiful bedrooms are available. The twin room is tastefully decorated and features two white iron bed frames and a tall chest of drawers. Daisy's king and double bedrooms are spacious and well appointed, the double bedroom has a heavy teak bed frame whilst the other room has a black iron-framed bed. Both bedrooms boast glorious views over the fields. The family bathroom has a WC, wash hand basin, a shower over the bath and a heated towel rail.
All of the properties have use of a utility room which includes a washing machine, tumble dryer and a freezer. This area also acts as a drying room. A selection of dvds, maps, guide books are stored here which are available to borrow during your stay. Bike storage is also available on site.
The C2C route almost passes the door for rides in the wilderness known as 'Back I Skiddaw'. These commons, grasslands, fells and mountains are well off the 'day tripper trail' and offer marvellous excursions for all levels of ability. You can visit the magnificent Penrith Castle, a 14th Century fortress, or learn about local history at Penrith and Eden Museum. We are close to Ullswater (6 miles), Pooley Bridge (5 miles), Glenridding (9 miles) and Keswick (11.5 mile/ 15 mins drive). Threlkeld (5 miles) is home to the Threlkeld coffee shop and a 2 minute drive takes you to a farm shop and tea room. Excellent attractions to visit include:
