The "Owl Barn" is a secluded two-person holiday let at Hawes Farm, which is no longer a working farm. Set in countryside, in a hollow with a stream, the farm stands on its own, along a no-through minor road, at the foot of Ennerdale Valley in the North West Lake District. Arrival and departure any day of the week, just choose the days that suit you.
The cottage is a converted barn, adjacent to our farmhouse next door, and with its own private garden. There are no neighbours so the location offers quiet countryside seclusion. Cockermouth, Whitehaven and Workington are all within 20 minutes drive. Inside, the Owl Barn is all on one level. It is very comfortable, with central heating, a washing machine and a modern, well equipped kitchen. There is a large comfortable living area, with wooden beams, views of fields and fells, and a wood-burning stove.
We supply a barrow load of logs, which is plenty for several evenings and can supply extra logs at a small charge. There is a separate bedroom (king-size bed), and the bathroom (bath with shower over), is off the bedroom. We cannot receive terrestrial TV here, but there is a DVD player with a wide selection of films and a CD player/radio. The cottage has fibre broadband with Wi-Fi. In season we are happy to gift surplus produce, often eggs/apples/veg’ and sometimes apricots and figs!
There are walks from the door and the whole of the quiet North West side of the Lakes to explore. There are local pubs/restaurants with good food. Ennerdale Lake is five minutes by car or half an hour by footpath. There is a wealth of information in the cottage about local attractions, lots of leaflets, a dozen or so suggested walks and an extensive visitors book so that you can see what others visitors have enjoyed (or not enjoyed!)
