Ballivicar Farm Apartments offers self catering accommodation that is situated near Port Ellen on the Isle of Islay.
The two self catering and well equipped apartments are called The Chougherie and The Hayloft. Both apartments have Wi-Fi available. We are a working farm with sheep and 30 horses, 2 of which are Clydesdales. Visitors to the farm include deer, pheasants, birds of prey, owls and the odd hedgehog, geese mostly in winter, hares etc.
The Chougherie is a comfortable three-bedroom cottage featuring a king-size double bedroom with an en-suite shower room, a twin bedroom and a single bedroom, all perfect for families or small groups. A separate bathroom serves the twin and single rooms, providing convenience and privacy. The open-plan layout includes a well-equipped kitchen and a lounge area, ideal for relaxing after a day of exploring. All bed linen is provided and a washing machine is available for guest use, ensuring a convenient and enjoyable stay.
The Hayloft is a one-bedroom cottage featuring twin beds, a spacious living area and an open-plan kitchen, all complemented by an en-suite bathroom for added convenience. A cosy conservatory with a picture window offers a stunning view, perfect for relaxing and taking in the peaceful surroundings. Guests can enjoy free WiFi and all bed linen is provided, along with access to a washing machine, making it an ideal self-catering retreat.
The farm enjoys a peaceful location near, yet distinctly separate from, Port Ellen, offering both seclusion and convenience. It’s within 15 minutes of Islay’s main ferry terminal, the airport and the island’s only golf course. Three of Islay’s most iconic working distilleries are also just a short drive away. Surrounded by the island’s unspoiled coastline and quiet, empty beaches, the area has a timeless charm.
Wildlife, rare on the mainland, is part of everyday life, barn owls nest in the farm buildings, there are swallows everywhere (and bats), and since nothing is shot on the farm, pheasants, hares, roe deer (and some red) and rabbits abound. Buzzards are commonplace, hen harriers and peregrines are also part of everyday life. In the winter there are geese, Greenland white-fronts and barnacles in large numbers.
History surrounds the farm and island from iron-age forts, standing stones, deserted townships and celtic crosses, all within easy reach. But above all, Islay (and Ballivicar) is a healing place, a quiet, peaceful, un-polluted respite from an overcrowded world, 'remote', but in fact not remote at all, just a well kept secret.
The Isle of Islay offers the visitor a peaceful and relaxing holiday with miles of beaches, bays on Islay's Atlantic west coast and stunning views.
