Local Area
Dalavich, Argyll and the Scottish Highlands host a myriad of beautiful attractions, from awesome landscapes and wonderful wildlife, to Scottish heritage and tourist attractions. Relaxation is guaranteed in Dalavich, but we are sure many of you will want to do more than just relax, and hope that we can provide some of the information you may need to help plan your stay in Scotland. If you are a relaxed rambler, a casual walker, a serious hiker, a mountain climber or just like to get out and enjoy the nature, The Old School is ideally situated to enjoy some of the most beautiful walks in Argyll.Loch Awe is one of the largest lochs in Scotland, over 26 miles long, a mile wide in places and reaching depths of 300ft.
As well as providing some spectacular scenery, Loch Awe is one of the most popular lochs in Argyll for angling, and is famous for its huge ferox trout. Ferox Trout are large predatory brown trout that have switched from feeding on invertebrates to feeding on other fish, which has helped them to grow much bigger and live longer. Several British records have been caught in Loch Awe, including one on the 15th March 2002 which weighed in at an incredible 31lb 12oz! Most of the Brown trout in the Loch average 6 to 8oz in weight, which makes fishing for the Ferox Trout an interesting challenge for keen fisherman. Other species that can be fished in Loch Awe, are Rainbow Trout 'escapees', Sea Trout, Salmon, Arctic Char, Perch and Pike.
