Summary
Borvemor Cottages are a group of self catering holiday cottages that are superbly situated close to an Atlantic Beach which is enjoyable in all weathers and seasons. The Isle of Harris is a fantastic destination for a relaxing break away and it makes an ideal base to explore the Western Isles and the Outer Hebrides.
Our cottages are all in their own space, providing guests with the privacy they require. None of the cottages are overlooked and they are all decorated and furnished to a high standard.
Studio Apartment
This self catering apartment can accommodate up to 8 guests. The holiday home is well equipped with all modern facilities and all linen, duvets and towels are provided. A travel cot and high chair are available. We do not have terrestrial TV reception but provide a DVD player (with some DVD’s) along with a monitor, radio and CD player as well as board games. Free Wi-Fi is available.There is a double bedroom on the ground floor and 2 twin bedrooms upstairs. Change over days is Saturday with short breaks commencing Saturday for 3 nights and Tuesday for 4 nights.
There is a 10% discount for low occupancy seasonal (couples with an infant) willing to use downstairs suite only (stair gated) When upstairs bedrooms are locked this arrangement also allows for a dog but only when there is no upstairs access. There is a high occupancy charge of 25% for using additional upstairs bedroom (key provided, 2 persons).
Blackhouse
This holiday cottage is a traditional looking dry stone island house that took shape in just 32 days and was completed within four months and subsequently received the Pinnacle Award from The Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain (DSWA). This is a romantic setting suitable for honeymoon couples and celebrating anniversary memories too. The holiday cottage has comfortable leather sofas, colourful Harris Tweed cushions and a wonderful hearth with a wood burning stove.The kitchen is fully equipped and includes an electric oven, ceramic hob, microwave oven, combined fridge/freezer and dishwasher. The bathroom includes a bath with an electric shower, wall heater and underfloor heated tiles. There is plenty of hot water and like the rest of the house is wood lined in gentle tones. A washing machine and drier are accessible from the hall.
The double bedroom has a very comfortable king size bed, with dressing table and wardrobe.

Stable Cottage
Stable Cottage is roomy and comfortable. It stands on the seaward side of the A859 at the road sign for Scaristavore adjoining Byre Cottage. It has been thoughtfully converted from an original 18th Century farm steading building with 3ft thick stone walls retained, to create a spacious sitting area with large east facing French windows opening on to a view of South Harris hills. It has 3 bedrooms; 1 double room and 2 twin rooms, 1 twin room has a bunk bed and the other has an L shaped bunk bed. There are 2 toilet rooms, one with an electric shower, both off the corridor which leads through to the bedrooms.The living room is spacious with comfortable seating and full height glass door panels at the gable end with an open plan dining area at the other end. The modern fitted kitchen is well equipped and there are also on site launderette facilities. There is a toilet and a shower room with a further toilet/washroom off the corridor which leads through to the bedrooms.
Linen, duvets and towels are provided. A travel cot for up to two year olds and a baby phone is available. We do not have TV reception but provide a DVD player, board games and free WIFI.
A pet dog is welcome by prior arrangement and with their own basket as they cannot sleep in the bedrooms or on the furniture. The electricity is metered and read weekly.
Byre Cottage
Byre Cottage is cosy and welcoming surrounded by mature land leading onto an Atlantic beach a few minutes’ walk away. There are views of the South Harris hills from the comfortable conservatory facing the south east and the hills to the north from the living /dining area. The modern fitted kitchen/living room is in an adjoining wing of the bedrooms linked by a corridor opening onto a pleasant conservatory. There is a microwave oven and electric oven in the kitchen. The furnishings are soft cushioned pine easy chairs with a rectangular pine dining table. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer in a separate launderette room.Linen, duvets and towels are provided. A travel cot for up to two year olds and a baby phone is available. We do not have TV reception but provide a DVD player, radio/cassette recorder and board games and free Wi-Fi.

Vallay House
Vallay House is at the corner of a dry stone walled garden and the sitting area is very sheltered. The front door downstairs opens onto an L shaped hall with access to living room, bedroom and adjoining large shower room and toilet. The living room is spacious with comfortable soft furnishings and an interesting library which includes books about Scotland and the Hebrides. This room opens onto a fully equipped galley kitchen which leads on to the dining area with back door opening onto a paved South facing patio. The adjoining enclosed red chipped stone area contains fixed benches and table also an infrared sauna.Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms, one is a double with an adjoining dressing room and the other is a twin bedded room. The bathroom upstairs has a bath, with hot water either from the roof panels, heated directly from the sun or an immersion heater. There is also an electrically heated shower above the bath.
The bedroom downstairs has a high quality pull out bed arrangement under a single bed which can be converted to twin beds or made into a comfortable double bed. We also allow our tenants to opt for a low occupancy discount during short break periods in early and late seasons, by using downstairs facilities only. This requires a stair gate to be in place. This arrangement also allows for a dog, but only when there is no upstairs access.
Visiting Scarista & Exploring the Isle of Harris
The nearby beach has interesting rock pools and a variety of beautiful shells. Otters are known to frequent it from time to time as well as being seen at nearby islets. Our holiday cottages are in an ideal spot to enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities and there are many local groups and clubs to join, allowing you to pursue your own interests.The coast road offers a wide variety of scenery, with constantly changing views of the sea and the islands. There is great variation between the east and the west sides of the island - cycling is one of the best ways of taking in the scenery at a leisurely pace.
