The Old Gravel Pit Lodges consists of four rustic cabins situated within 30 acres of a private nature reserve. This secluded retreat offers a perfect escape for those seeking to disconnect from the pressures of modern life. More and more people are looking to step away from the constant buzz of technology, switch off their devices, and rediscover the beauty of a slower pace. Turning off your phone can be unexpectedly liberating, allowing you to truly unwind. Life moves quickly, and we often forget to pause. To help with this, we provide two one-bedroom unplugged cabins designed for a digital detox, as well as two two-bedroom cabins equipped with Wi-Fi and a smart TV for those who may need to stay connected. While we encourage guests to embrace the peaceful surroundings, we understand that some require the flexibility to work if needed.
Each cabin features double French doors that open onto a private verandah, offering a perfect space to relax and take in the natural beauty. The cabins are fully equipped with kitchens, cast iron gas stoves, and laundry facilities, ensuring a comfortable stay.
Meandering natural paths wind through the 30-acre site, with charming little bridges crossing smaller bodies of water. Fishing enthusiasts will appreciate the large lake, known as Digby, which has designated fishing pegs for those who enjoy a quiet day by the water. Inside every cabin, guests will find a comprehensive guide providing all the necessary information about the lodges and their scenic surroundings.
This is a haven of tranquility, where expanses of shimmering water are home to fish, wildfowl and a variety of birds, creating an exclusive retreat for those who stay with us. The nature reserve and coarse fishing opportunities are reserved solely for our guests, offering an uninterrupted experience of birdwatching, fishing, and immersing oneself in the natural environment.
Walking paths have been carefully cut into the landscape, allowing visitors to explore the heart of this wildlife sanctuary. Along the way, thoughtfully placed benches provide ideal spots for sketching, photography, or simply taking in the sights and sounds of the woodland and field birds. For those with a keen interest in birdwatching, there is a dedicated hide by one of the lakes, and each lodge is equipped with a plant and wildlife identification book to enhance the experience.
The lakes, which cover nearly half of the site, offer private fishing platforms at each lodge, ensuring the most convenient fishing experience. Anglers can try their luck catching Rudd, Roach, Tench, Carp, Bream, and Ide, making it a paradise for fishing enthusiasts. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful retreat for two or a memorable getaway with friends, there’s a lodge waiting to welcome you.
